Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand are set to be rested from England's forthcoming tour of the USA. Sven Goran Eriksson's side will play the USA on May 28th in Chicago before facing Colombia in New Jersey on May 31st. Hobbs in Trouble

Duo to Miss England Tour

Manchester United duo Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand are set to be rested from England's forthcoming tour of the United States of America following a long season with the Red Devils.

Wayne Rooney has enjoyed a successful first term at Old Trafford since his £30 million move from Everton earlier this season while Rio Ferdinand is struggling with a knee problem.

Sven Goran Eriksson's side will play the USA on May 28th in Chicago before facing Colombia in New Jersey on May 31st.

FA spokesman Adrian Bevington stated: "A number of senior players have already given their support to the tour, while David Beckham and Michael Owen will be joining for the game in New Jersey following the end of the Spanish season."

"This tour has always been an opportunity for Sven and the coaching staff to look at some new players a year before the World Cup in Germany."

"Next season, opportunities will be at a premium for Sven to look at new players - so he feels this is a great platform for some of the Premier League's bright young stars who have yet to become established in the England team."

A number of players knocking on England's door, including Southampton's Peter Crouch and Spurs' Michael Carrick are expected to be included in the traveling squad.
