Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed his second-string for their "absolutely terrific" double League titles success.

Reserves boss Ricky Sbragia was gifted the the Premier Reserve League trophy at Old Trafford on Thursday night following their 3-1 triumph over rivals Manchester City.

Goals came courtesy of David Bellion, Giuseppe Rossi and Liam Miller and Sir Alex Ferguson is delighted. "We are very pleased with both teams," stated the Scotsman "They won by a few points and played some great football throughout the season"

"Both Reserve teams have been absolutely terrific this season, especially considering the emphasis on young players"

"I think there are some very good young players in the Reserves this season, and most of them are under the age of 18,"

"We have half a dozen who have done really well; Gerard Pique, Giuseppe Rossi, Lee Martin - who has done exceptionally well - David Jones and Paul McShane"

"It's always going to be used as a stepping stone for young players to progress into the first team; that's the purpose of a reserve team"

United will pull out of the Pontins league next season however as they look to downsize.
