Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will have to strengthen his squad in certain positions if he and his side are going to rise above the likes of Chelsea, Everton and Arsenal in the New Year and David Hobbs brings you the second installment of possible transfer targets who have been mentioned this season.

Christmas may have just past us, but David Gill and the Old Trafford board are yet to reward Sir Alex Ferguson with a present in the form of a human footballer.

Price: At least £5 million
Availability: Strapped for cash Parma are in need of a cash injection following a few seasons of financial insecurity and may cash in on the highly rated goalkeeper. The Frenchman has been linked with a move to an array of clubs though, not just United.
Likelihood: Quite Likely

Tomas Ujfalusi 
(Fiorentina)
Price: £7 - £10 million
Availability: Ujfalusi, a Czech international defender, may be called in to bolster The Red Devils defence after catching the eye at scouts present at Euro 2004, watching the Fiorentina man enjoy a successful campaign in Portugal. A heft price-tag of around the £10 million mark may prove a stumbling block.
Likelihood: Likely

Stewart Downing 
(Middlesbrough)
Price: £12 million
Availability: As Ryan Giggs' future at Old Trafford possesses a large question mark over it's head, Ferguson may swoop to sign the young English winger. If an offer too big for Steve McClaren and his board came in that was to good to refuse, they would be helpless in Downing's transfer to a bigger club.
Likelihood: Unlikely

Joaquin 
(Real Betis)
Price: £20 million
Availability: Betis are adamant the Spanish star won't be leaving Betis this season at least. A number of clubs including Chelsea and Real Madrid have bid for the midfielder, but is not likelyto move.
Likelihood: Incredibly Unlikely.
