United goalkeeper Roy Carroll is set to commit his future at Old Trafford by signing a new and improved contract, amid much speculation the Ulsterman is unhappy. Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll is set to commit his future at Old Trafford by signing a new and improved contract, amid much speculation the Ulsterman is unhappy.

Carroll has been solid for The Red Devils without really excelling ever since his £3 million transfer from Wigan Athletic a few seasons back.

The Northern Ireland international goalkeeper, 27, had been keeping the bench warm for the past few seasons but is now relishing his opportunity in-between the sticks since Tim Howard's string of blunders.

Agent Francis Martin claimed: "We have put a new proposal to the club and now we are waiting for their response,"

"It has dragged on a little longer than we'd have hoped, but it has got to be right for all parties."

"He is not asking to be the highest-paid player at the club. He just wants to be on a par with some of the senior players at the club. We will reach an agreement."

Team-mate Ryan Giggs is also close to a new deal.
