Manchester United's Phil Neville has rubbished reports linking him away from Old Trafford, insisting he wants to stay and earn a more permanent place with The Red Devils.

The 27-year old defender/midfield, who has been serving in and out of the England squad recently, has been the subject of a January transfer-window move away from United for a destination in where he'll play more first team football, despite signing a new contract in the summer along with his brother Gary.

Neville, who skippered United in his 5th start of the season in their 1-0 Carling Cup win over Arsenal, said: I want to play more games but the bigger challenge is to stay and fight for my place,"

"The easy way out is to look elsewhere but the boss wants me to play for him and he's the man I should listen to. There are some great players here and the boss has made sure I've contributed."

He added: "This year has been a little bit different. I have probably not played the amount of games I have done in the past but he assures me I will make a contribution."

"As long as I feel I am making a contribution and still feel as if I am good enough to play for this team, I will stay and fight for my place."
