Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will be hoping to cap his 999th game in charge of The Red Devils with a Premier League win against Charlton Athletic at Old Trafford.

United have a great league record against the London outfit, and will hope the form continues as United are in need of a vital 3 points in an attempt to catch up with top-2 Chelsea and Arsenal.

Unlike Sir Alex Ferguson, Charlton boss Alan Curbishley has no injury worries following mid-week internationals. Front-men Ruud van Nistelrooy and Louis Saha are both likely to miss the game. Frenchman Saha's injury is slightly more serious than Dutchman Van Nistelrooy's however, and is expected to be out for about 3 weeks.

Addicks boss Curbishley isn't expecting too much from his side, revealing his side have yet to beat The Reds: "We've not got a good record against United,"

"I look at Manchester United and I think it's the only team we haven't beaten in The Premiership home and away."

"We've obviously beaten Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. I think they are the only team we haven't beaten."

Athletic and United sandwich Liverpool in the Premier League and there is only 3 points between the two outfits. A massive win could mean Charlton leapfrog the home side, but Athletic would have to win by 8 goals in order for that to happen.

Darren Fletcher is likely to retain his startling position in midfield after impressing in last weekend's 3-1 win over Newcastle whilst Ryan Giggs may settle for a place on the bench again.

Shaun Bartlett will be available again for the visitors after completing his 1-match ban he picked up against Tottenham a few weeks ago.

ManUtdWeb caught up with Charlton fan Luke Gabriel ahead of the early afternoon fixture. He had this to say: "I think that we are in for a hard game. There is a chance of us getting something but the most we can realistically hope for is a draw. I just hope we don't concede four...again!"

ManUtdWeb Preview: Manchester United 2 - Charlton Athletic 0 - The win against Newcastle is hopefully the start of a string of good form. I can't see Charlton getting something out of the game but expect players to be rested going into the midweek Champions League game with Lyon.
