Poland 1 - 2 England

United striker along with Manchester City goalkeeper David James made way for Paul Robinson and Jermain Defoe and it paid off as England hit back from a 2-2 draw with Austria to win 2-1 in Poland.

It was Defoe who opened the scoring in the first-half with a fantastic turn & shot. Gary Neville had to be replaced a few minutes prior to the goal.

Poland hit back after the break but a slight touch from Michael Owen aided a low cross home, past Jerzi Dudek.

Switzerland 1 - 1 Republic of Ireland

Skipper for club and country Roy Keane returned from injury to help Brain Kerr's side force a point out of Switzerland in Basel.

Clinton Morrison claimed a goal early on but was soon cancelled out by Hakan Yakin.

Ireland now have managed 4 points from the 2 opening games following a 3-0 victory over Cyprus on the weekend.

Striker Louis Saha was replaced just 9 minutes into the game, presumably because of injury during France's 2-0 win in the Faroe Islands. Arsenal captain Patrick Vieria was dismissed in the game.

Darren Fletcher was held to a 0- stalemate against Slovenia whilst Cristiano Ronaldo represented Portugal.
