Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes fears for his place in the England side after failing to score on the international scene for three years. The 29-year-old is ready to accept that on-form Chelsea star Frank Lampard will take his place in the side for the upcoming European championships.

Paul Scholes fears that his poor form in the England shirt may cost him his place in Sven Goran-Eriksson's England side for the upcoming European Championship tournament held in Portugal.

The United star has taken criticism from England fans and sections for the media for failing to do his job when representing his country, and Scholes is currently suffering from an international goal drought lasting three years.

Frank Lampard's tremendous season on the domestic and European scene has seen many call for the Chelsea midfielder to play a pivotal part in England's Euro 2004 campaign, and Scholes fears he could lose his place to the versatile former West Ham man. However, a gracious Scholes has stated that there would be no hard feelings if he wasn't Eriksson's immediate choice for the championship, and admits there is a need for improvement with his game for England.

"If the manager was to pick him instead of me, I would wish Frank all the best because I've not done what I should be doing for England for three years." said the 29-year-old

"I have to think I could be dropped. Players like Frank are having a great season and deserve to be given a chance.''
