Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson exposed that he didn't expect to see Nicky Butt and Phillip Neville play for so long in England's 1-0 defeat by the hands of Sweden in midweek. Fergie To Leave Out England Duo
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson exposed that he didn't expect to see Nicky Butt and Phillip Neville play for so long in England's 1-0 defeat by the hands of Sweden in midweek.

The duo will be punished for playing so long in the game in Gothenburg and are unlikely to feature in United's crunch encounter with Arsenal at Villa Park in the FA Cup semi-final.

Butt, who playing in midfield, got substituted with 12 minutes to go by Scott Parker in the game which saw Ajax forward Zlatan Ibrahimovich score the goal which maintained England's 36-year unbeaten run against Sweden.

Phillip Neville on the other hand was one of three players who saw out the full 90-minutes of the game and did not impress in the right-back position at all.

"They have ruled themselves out. It's changed my thinking on the team so we are probably looking at the same team as last week." confirmed Ferguson

"We expected them to play half a game." he continued.

"We weren't expecting them to play that long."
