| Former Manchester United defender Paul
Parker believes that a clearout of players at the end of the season is
inevitable after a disappointing season by the high standards of the Red
Devils. Although the F.A Cup is still possible, an early exit from the European Cup and the Premiership race all-but out of sight, media spotlight has been on Sir Alex Ferguson who is believed to be considering a major cut of players from his hefty squad. Goalkeeping duo Fabien Barthez and Ricardo are both expected to leave the club in the summer, but there are numerous other names who have been linked with a move away from Old Trafford. Ferguson is believed to be losing pateience with defender Wesley Brown, who has not built on the promising signs during the early part of his career, and Phillip Neville is another player from the defensive ranks who has been rumoured to depart at the end of the campaign. Nicky Butt handed a transfer request in during the January transfer window, and although the midfielder decided to stay and fight for his place, he is expected to be one of many players who leave the club at the end of the season. Another player from the 'class of 1992' who could be on his way is Welsh winger Ryan Giggs, with media speculation suggesting Inter Milan are lining up a £25million bid. Judging on recent quotes, Roy Keane could be on the verge of retirement, and striker Diego Forlan has been 'set to leave' ever since he joined! "It is going to be very difficult, but
we all know that Sir Alex Ferguson has not got to where he is by being
sentimental." said Parker. Some of the links and speculation surrounding players is clearly paper talk, but it is almost certain that players will leave during the transfer window. Leave your thoughts on who you wish to see leave the club, and which new players you would like to see arrive at Old Trafford on the messageboard. |
