Manchester United forward Ruud Van Nistelrooy has admitted that he had a point to prove during United's F.A Cup clash with Fulham after being rested for last Saturday's league game at Loftus Road. The record breaking striker showed his prolific instinct my netting twice as United came from behind to beat a spirited Cottagers side 2-1.

Sir Alex Ferguson's team selection for the Premiership match against Fulham last Saturday was seen as bizarre with several big names, including Van Nistelrooy left out. The below-par United side only managed a point in the capital, and the Dutch international seemed annoyed with his manager for being left out of a game that could have ended the Red Devils' hopes of lifting a ninth Premiership title in May.

"I hadn't played for a while so I felt good and we have reached the semi-finals now so that's a big game for us this season." said Van Nistelrooy.

"Sometimes managers and players disagree about needing a rest because I always want to play, which doesn't mean I always have to play.

"It's a shame I didn't play at Loftus Road, that's what I thought. I played the most games of all the squad this season and deep down I probably agree with him but it's not nice to be rested."
