Ferguson: "Three Clubs in for Nicky Butt"
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that three clubs have approached him with interest in want-away midfielder Nicky Butt.

Birmingham City, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur have all contacted United wishing to snap up the England international, who had a transfer request accepted earlier in the month due to frustration over a lack of first-team football.

"Karren Brady at Birmingham spoke to our chief executive David Gill and we've told them what we're looking for," said Ferguson.

"They are trying to structure a deal to talk to Nicky.

"Apart from that, Middlesbrough might come in and we've had enquiries from Spurs and Everton."

"Ideally I'd like Nicky to stay, but I understand his situation.

"Letting Nicky go somewhere on loan is not an option."

Butt has been linked with a hole host of clubs since he became available on the market, with Glasgow Celtic and Chelsea also rumoured to be lining up bids for the Manchester-born player.

The 28-year-old desires first-team action, with his England place in jeopardy as he sits on the bench at United. Birmingham City are currently believed to be leading the race for Butt, and with former team-mate Steve Bruce in charge at St.Andrews', a move to the Midlands outfit looks most likely for the hard-working midfielder.
