Ferguson Delight at Brown Return
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is delighted to have his defender Wes Brown back in action following a long-lay off with injury. The injury-prone centre-half has recovered from injury just in time to cover for Rio Ferdinand at the heart of the defence with the £30million man's 8-month ban for missing a drugs test looming large.

Brown played his first game of the season in Sunday's F.A Cup tie against Aston Villa and put in a pleasing performance at the back, particularly at the start of the game when the Villains attacked in numbers.

"He was absolutely superb," Ferguson said in a news conference on Tuesday.

"I couldn't be more pleased - the fact that he has been out for eight months to come back and perform like he did.

"He felt great after it and it's terrific to see him back."

The 24-year-old must now do all he can to avoid injury and try and establish himself a regular place in the Manchester United defence, something he has not yet done since coming through the youth ranks. Ferdinand's ban is a devastating blow for the club, but gives the inexperienced defender a real chance at making a name for himself.

Ferdinand is also likely to be suspended for the entire stretch of the European Championships in Portugal, unless their is a miraculous change in the suspension date if the player appeals. This means their is likely to be a vacancy in the England squad for the tournament, and if Brown performs like we all know he can in the red United jersey, their is absolutely no reason why he cannot make that place his own.
