Bruce is relegated

One of the dullest seasons on Premier League record is over; a 0-0 draw at Hull bringing down the curtain on a forgettable, yet progressive, campaign.

United were involved in one of the main games of the day.

With almost everything else already decided, the media pinned their hopes on a dramatic afternoon towards the bottom of the table. Hull and Newcastle's scrap for top-flight survival was the main event.

However, in truth, it always looked a big ask for Hull. Indeed, Newcastle's 2-0 victory over West Ham meant Sunday's result at The Circle was immaterial.

The Tigers did create chances, and 'keeper Victor Valdes, who could be a contender for the #1 jersey should David de Gea leave, produced a handful of impressive stops.

Marouane Fellaini's strong season ended 13 minutes earlier with a red card for a poor challenge, but that couldn't spur on Steve Bruce's men to at least make things vaguely more interesting at the death.

So - a pretty dull final day (Stoke hammering Liverpool aside!) ends a bore of a league season. But for Louis van Gaal it's largely job done. Whilst the Dutchman has spent a fortune to do it, United are comfortably back in the Champions League.

70 points may mark United's second lowest points return in Premier League history - but the ship has been steadied. Falcao flopped, Di Maria was poor, and we have a potentially departing goalkeeper to thank, but there's much to be excited about for the next campaign. Football fans across the land will just hope it isn't such a snooze-fest!
