Manchester United's superiority ultimately told, as Louis van Gaal's men secured safe passage into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 victory at Yeovil Town.

In the first meeting between the two sides since 1949, United had to wait 64 minutes to break the Glovers' stubborn resistance.

Ander Herrera hit a stunning, long-range, right-footed strike in front of the travelling masses. 

Ridiculously, he was booked for celebrating with the Red Army - a sad indictment, in a moment both players and fans should be allowed to enjoy. 

The contest was settled in the closing stages, as substitute Angel Di Maria scored on his much-anticipated return to first-team affairs, as he raced onto Wayne Rooney's through-ball and dispatched a fine, lifted finish.
 
Spirited Yeovil will be proud of their efforts, and 9,264 at Huish Park watched on as Kieffer Moore came close to giving the hosts a shock lead on 55 minutes.

United, however, avoided an upset and march a step closer to Wembley, in a competition which van Gaal's men must attach massive, massive importance.
