On his way?

Speculation is mounting that Danny Welbeck could be on the verge of leaving Manchester United, with Sunderland, Everton and Spurs all said to be monitoring the situation.  

Welbeck had worked his way ahead of Javier Hernandez in United's pecking order under David Moyes, but didn't come close to hitting a 20-goal target set by the Scot.

Amid intense competition for a starting berth, Welbeck has been linked with a move away from the club in order to enjoy regular first-team football, and that move come could before the transfer window slams shut.

Louis van Gaal gave a vague response when questioned about the England international's future - only confirming that a conversation had taken place between he, the player and assistant boss Ryan Giggs.

However, reports allege that chat involved LVG telling the player he can leave United, with the possible emergence of hugely promising young striker James Wilson likely to make it all the harder for Welbeck to establish himself at Old Trafford.

A host of Premier League clubs have been linked with the services of the player, and Everton boss Roberto Martinez is thought to be keeping close tabs on his availability.

Spurs and Sunderland could also make an approach, but a move to Hull City - previously reported in the press - looks unlikely to materialise.
