United now in pole position for di Maria swoop?

Should Manchester United be prepared to splash out on Ángel di María, they could now be in pole position, with Paris Saint Germain boss Laurent Blanc suggesting his club's own interest could hit a potentially insurmountable snag.

Di María has told Real Madrid his desire to leave the Spanish club, with Paris and Manchester reported to be the two most likely destinations for the 26-year-old.

Speculation had suggested that di María was keen on a move to big-spending PSG, but Financial Fair Play could make a swoop from the Ligue 1 club difficult.

At a press conference, Blanc said: “There are many clubs interested in di María. PSG cannot do what we want. It’s a difficult case.”

FFP regulations seek to prevent football clubs splashing out more than they earn in the pursuit of success, and PSG have already spent huge amounts of money on Edinson Cavani, Yohan Cabaye and David Luiz.

United would need to commit big resources to any move for the highly-rated Argentinean, who has been capped 52 times for his country, and has been at Real since 2010.
