Robin van Persie could return to action this weekend for the crucial Premier League clash against Sunderland.

The Dutch striker did not feature against Swansea for United's league opener, having been handed an extended break following the Netherlands' World Cup exploits.

Javier Hernandez partnered Rooney in attack on Saturday, but RVP has hinted that he could be set to make his first appearance of the season at the Stadium of Light.

Alongside a photo of he and Rooney, @Persie_Official tweeted: "Good training session done this morning. Looking forward to sunday!"

The former Arsenal man is two goals away from bagging 50 MUFC strikes, as he embarks on his third season as a Red Devil.
