Late winner

Louis van Gaal's Manchester United completed their pre-season schedule with a 2-1 victory over Valencia at Old Trafford.

Marouane Fellaini, who recieved a frosty reception from sections of the crowd, bagged a last-gasp winner as United completed a successful, unbeaten summer with a home win. 

The Belgian international took advantage of an error from 'keeper Diego Alves, who clattered into a defender as he sought to collect a Kyle Blackett cross, controlling the loose ball with his chest and coolly slotting home. 

Darren Fletcher had given the Red Devils the lead shortly after half-time, with the ball landing to the Scot from an Ashley Young corner, and his shot from the edge of the area, aided by a deflection, finding its way home.

Following the setback, Valencia pushed forward with ambition and grabbed a deserved equaliser on 71 minutes thanks to a fine volley from Rodrigo, but the La Liga side were left to rue missed opportunities as United grabbed a late winner. 

This was not United's most impressive pre-season display to date, indeed, van Gaal described it as United's poorest of his short tenure; but the Red Devils showed spirit to snatch victory; and head into the weekend’s opener against Swansea City on the back of an impressive set of pre-season results.
