In front of an incredible crowd of 109,318, Manchester United booked their ticket to the final of the International Champions Cup, where they will face bitter rivals Liverpool, following an impressive 3-1 victory against Real Madrid.

Ashley Young staked his case for regular first-team football to Louis van Gaal with a brace, as United continued their pre-season tour of the United States of the America.

Gareth Bale's effort for Real was sandwiched between Young's two goals, before Javier Hernandez's second-half strike sealed a morale-boosting win for United, who remain unbeaten during an intensive pre-season jaunt across the Atlantic.

Though Real started without Ronaldo, Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez, van Gaal will be pleased with his side's performance, which follows pleasing outings against Los Angeles Galaxy, Roma and Inter Milan.

Notably, the bumper crowd in Michigan is the highest ever attendance to watch a football match in the USA - beating the previous record, the 1984 Olympic final, by some 7,519 spectators.

Having topped Group A in this pre-season tournament, United now head to Miami for the final against Liverpool. It may be a friendly, but with silverware on the line and the chance to deliver a real statement of intent to our Scouse rivals, fans are eagerly looking forward to the clash.
