Welsh Premier League outfit Aberystwyth Town have generated a huge response on social media following a cheeky tweet that mocks Manchester United's failure to qualify for European football for the season ahead.  

Aber's seson gets underway on Thursday evening as they take on Derry City in a Europa League first qualification round tie.

The Seasiders qualified for Europe's second-tier competition after finishing runners-up in the 2014 Welsh Cup, having been beaten 3-2 in the final by WPL champions The New Saints at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground.

As the team travelled on the bus on their way to their way to face the League of Ireland outfit, they tweeted a picture with the caption: "Hey @ManUtd, we are all off to Europe... Are you??? @EuropaLeague"

The tweet has generated a massive response on Twitter, with some 15,600 users - including @ManUtdWeb - having already re-tweeted the message and approximately 6,000 so far picking it out as a favourite.

Park Avenue-club Aber have appeared in Europe on two appearances previously, representing Wales in the now-defunct Intertoto Cup in 1999 and 2004.

The winners of the tie will face Shakhtyor Soligorsk in the second qualifying tie.
