Valencia off as Ecuador bow out of Brazil

Antonio Valencia was sent-off as Ecuador crashed out of the World Cup on Wednesday despite a valiant effort in a goalless draw with France.

The United winger was dismissed four minutes into the second-half following a reckless challenge on Lucas Digne.

Results elsewhere in the Group meant the South Americans would needed to have beaten France, who named Patrice Evra on the bench, by two goals to qualify.

Ecuador could only muster up a goalless draw, thanks in part to an impressive display by their goalkeeper Alexander Dominguez, but also a reluctance to throw caution to the wind earlier in the game.

They bow out of the competition as Switzerland beat Honduras 3-0, handing them second spot in the Group and a Second Round tie against Argentina.

France will face Nigeria in the last 16 of the competition.
