Hernandez celebrates

Late goals from Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez handed Manchester United a crucial 3-2 victory over Stoke City. The dramatic win could kick start the club’s Premier League campaign.

Peter Crouch had put the visitors ahead after only four minutes in less than spectacular fashion, with Jonny Evans’ clearance hitting the striker and finding its way into the back of the net.

A close-range finish from Robin van Persie restored parity on 43 minutes, but Stoke took the lead again before the interval courtesy of a stunning free-kick from Marko Arnautovic.

United took a while to really threaten after the interval, and as the clock ticked away, the travelling Potters fans hoped they might be watching their side claim their first win at Old Trafford since April 1976.

However, buoyed by a hopeful home crowd, the Red Devils bagged two goals in three second-half minutes to snatch the points. Wayne Rooney headed home RVP’s corner on 78 minutes, before substitute Javier Hernandez fired home Patrice Evra’s cross.

United, who have now claimed eight successive home wins over Stoke, will be hoping this late turnaround could give their season a kick start ahead of Norwich’s visit in the League Cup.
