Wayne Rooney scored two goals in a well deserved victory in an entertaining match against the German side Bayer Laverkusen at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening. Robin van Persie and Antonio Valencia scored the other goals for United.
Following on from the workmanlike performance and victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday lunchtime, David Moyes fielded a strong team in his first game in charge of United in the Champions League. The home victory was well received as was Wayne Rooney who got a standing ovation from the 74,000 crowd when he was substitued towards the end.
Rooney and van Persie both missed easy chances in the second half which would have made United's victory even more emphatic but the Stretford End were treated to a couple of misses as well as a three well struck goals in the second half.
Rooney has now scored 200 first team goals for the Red Devils, only Bobby Charlton (249), Denis Law (237) and Jack Rowley (211) have scored more. It won't belong until Rowley's total is overhauled at this rate!
The next game in the Champions League is on Weds 2nd October away at Shakhtar Donetsk.
