RVP gets the fourth

Manchester United kicked-off 2013 with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Lancashire rivals Wigan Athletic. Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez both grabbed two goals as the Red Devils continued their impressive run of form at Robin Park, in front of 20,342 spectators. 

Hernandez fired United ahead after 35 minutes, turning the ball home after Latics stopper Ali Al Habsi palmed away a Patrice Evra effort.

United doubled their lead before the interval as RVP curled a superb shot into the back of the net - and the goals kept coming after half-time.

The result was put beyond reasonable doubt shortly after the hour mark as Hernandez sealed his brace by collecting a deflected van Persie free-kick and firing his shot home.

In the closing stages, United heaped more misery on Roberto Martinez's struggling side as RVP finished Danny Welbeck's cross to the delight of the travelling fans.

This was an impressive three points for United, who retain a seven point lead at the top of the Premier League tree. Sir Alex Ferguson will be delighted with his team's attacking intent and goalscoring heroics, with United having scored 10 goals in their last three league outings.
