Manchester United finished 2012 with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion, extending their unbeaten Premier League run to eight matches. Gareth McAuley’s own-goal put United on their way early on, whilst Robin van Persie’s late strike sealed the points and settled nerves around the Theatre of Dreams.

The Baggies came into this game on the back of wins against Norwich City and QPR – and provided stubborn opposition for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men.

United got off to an excellent start as - with nine minutes on the clock – McAuley turned an Ashley Young cross into his own net to the despair of the away supporters.

However, the Baggies went onto cause the hosts a number of problems – and were particularly impressive during a closely-fought second-half, with Gabriel Tamas spurning a superb opportunity.

The result, however, was sealed in the closing moments as Van Persie continued his fine goalscoring form by curling home United’s second on 90 minutes.
