Wenger during the 8-2

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will not be thinking of the 8-2 mauling his side suffered at Old Trafford earlier this season as the two teams meet on Sunday. The shot stopper has made his excuses for that incredible game in the North West, but said his side will not be dwelling on the result this weekend.

Szczesny was between the sticks at Old Trafford back in August as United claimed an incredible 8-2 victory over the Gunners.

Wayne Rooney scored a hat-trick, with Danny Welbeck, Nani, Ashley Young (2) and Ji-Sung Park all putting the ball beyond the reach of Szczesny.

75,448 were in attendance that day as United dealt Arsenal their worst defeat since 1896, but Szczesny insists that game will not be at the forefront of the North London club’s minds ahead of Sunday’s game.

He said: We lost badly to United earlier in the season but there are no scars from that game,"

"We had plenty of injuries at Old Trafford, we had played away at Udinese so we had a lot of things to deal with going into that game. We were not able to perform at our best for many reasons.

"We don't see any element of revenge for what happened. We just want to pick up three points and climb up the table because we don't deserve to be where we are.”

Arsene Wenger’s men currently sit 5th in the Premier League table - 12 points behind United, and go into the game on the back of a 3-2 away defeat at the hands of Swansea City.
