Owen scores his 2nd

An experimental Manchester United side cruised to an easy win at Elland Road on Tuesday evening as the Red Devils booked their place in the last 16 of the League Cup. Despite the involvement of many young United players, it was the experienced pairing of Michael Owen and Ryan Giggs who were on target for the visitors.

Owen bagged a brace and Giggs scored a fine goal on the stroke of half-time as the Reds embarrassed rivals Leeds.

Elland Road was buzzing as the game got underway; the home fans buoyed by Sir Alex Ferguson's decision to make wholesale changes to his starting XI.

However, despite a strong start, Leeds found themselves behind after 15 minutes with a scuffed shot into the corner of the goal.

United, who included goalkeeper Ben Amos and defender Ezekiel Fryers in their starting XI, doubled their lead on 32 minutes as Owen drilled a fine effort home from the edge of the box.

Giggs put the result beyond doubt and silenced the majority of the 31,031 crowd as a fine piece of skill and a tidy finish sealed another goal for the evergreen winger.

Sir Alex Ferguson introduced Paul Pogba for his United debut at the break, whilst Danny Welbeck and another debutant Larnell Cole came on in the latter stages.

The second-half was a largely disappointing affair as Leeds never threatened a comeback and United cruised through to the nex round, gaining revenge for January 2010 in the process.
