Impressive United brush aside Spurs at Old Trafford

Despite being without a number of star players, Manchester United cruised to a 3-0 home victory over Spurs at Old Trafford on Monday evening. Second-half strikes from Danny Welbeck, Anderson and Wayne Rooney handed the Red Devils a convincing victory, lifting them to second in the Premier League title. 

After a even opening 45 minutes, United cruised to victory after the break with clinical finishing proving important.

The deadlock was broken shortly after the hour mark as Welbeck headed home a Tom Cleverley cross.

United doubled their lead soon afterwards as Anderson latched onto a Welbeck back-heel and drilled a fine finish home.

The win was wrapped up three minutes from time as Rooney sent a morale-boosting headed effort beyond the reach of Brad Friedel.

Despite a few nervous moments, David De Gea will be pleased to have kept his first United clean sheet as a makeshift defence shut out Spurs.

United now sit in second spot on six points - alongside fellow early pace-setters City and Wolves.

Sir Alex Ferguson's men return to action on Sunday with a crucial home league fixture against struggling Arsenal. Arsene Wenger's men are already five points behind United.

Excellent , creative performance as you say the the 2nd half. God only knows why the 'specialist' commentator was saying we were all over them in the 1st half, their pace was causing us all sorts of issues.
