Dimitar Berbatov missed two first-half sitters and Michael Carrick gifted Yaya Toure a goal as Manchester City dumped United out of the FA Cup at Wembley. The Red Devils were below par after half-time and had Paul Scholes’ dismissed on 72 minutes for a high tackle on Pablo Zabaleta.

Carrick’s poor pass gifted possession to Toure and the Ivory Coast international showed great composure to steer home the only goal of the game.

United, without the suspended Wayne Rooney, had the two best chances of the first-half in quick succession.

Berbatov missed a one-on-one and only seconds later turned a cross over the bar when all he needed to do was poke the ball into an empty net.

The Red Devils failed to take advantage of their first-half opportunities and City gained momentum after the break.

Toure’s goal came after seven minutes of second-half dominance and, from there; United struggled to get back into the game.

Nani’s second-half free-kick was palmed onto the crossbar from Joe Hart as City held firm for a famous victory to set-up a Cup final with Sunday’s victors Stoke City.

The introduction of Javier Hernandez came too late for many United fans as the Red Devils’ hopes of emulating the 1999 Treble faded.

Emotions ran high after the full-time whistle as Mario Balotelli reportedly wound-up United’s Red Army – but the bottom line is that City are now big favourites to end their long wait for silverware. Groan.

I had to laugh at City's tee shirts today - TAKE THE BANNER DOWN - as if Stoke are going to roll over and give them the Cup. If they do we'll beat them in the Community Shield and start the ticker again.
