Owen: "Tough test"

Manchester United frontman Michael Owen is expecting a tough F.A Cup tie on Sunday afternoon as the Red Devils face his former club Liverpool. Sir Alex Ferguson’s men are presently eleven places above their fierce rivals in the Premier League table.

Chester-born Owen kicked-off his career with Liverpool. He bagged 118 league goals for the club, before swapping the North West for Real Madrid. 

United’s number seven caused huge controversy amongst the Anfield faithful in July 2009 when he penned a two-year deal at Old Trafford. 

He has bagged four Premier League goals for the Red Devils - and would dearly love to be involved on Sunday against his former club and United's fiercest foes. 

Speaking to United Review, the 31-year-old said: "We know it's going to be tough.

“It's probably fair to say we'd both have been hoping for an easier path to the next round, but that's the beauty of the FA Cup.

”Big teams always go out and this year it won't be any different. We just hope it's not us.”

It is little over twelve months since United were last in F.A Cup action. Jermaine Beckford struck a shock winner as League One Leeds dumped United out of the competition at Old Trafford.

Michael Owen replaced Anderson as a 69th-minute substitute in front of 74,526 spectators.

Sir Alex’s side will be eager to put the memory of that game to bed – and will be big favourites against Liverpool, who have Kenny Dalglish in charge for the first time.
