United defender Rio Ferdinand believes the Red Devils were worthy winners over Arsenal on Monday evening. The England centre-back skippered United to victory as a first-half header from Ji-Sung Park separated the two sides in a nervy contest.
Park nodded on Nani's deflected cross on 40 minutes as United claimed a crucial three points to go top of the Premier League tree.
Wayne Rooney missed a second-half penalty, but United's back-four stood strong in the closing stages to the delight of the Old Trafford faithful.
Captain Ferdinand said after the full-time whistle: "I thought today we contained them very well and we had the best chances.
"We missed a penalty, unfortunately, Nani had a great chance in a one-on-one so I'd say we probably shaded it."
It was not a vintage United display or a particularly memorable contest - but United did enough to maintain their unbeaten Premier League record and open up a two-point gap at the Premier League summit. Bring on Chelsea.
