Terrible performance and terrible team selection by Fergie.

If you're not going to play anyone on the left wing then you HAVE to have Evra at left back to get some width on that side of the pitch.

Resting the only striker we have who looks capable of creating or scoring anything at the moment when there's a two week international break and he's retired from internationals? Madness.

Owen? Sigh. Unless someone puts a chance on a plate for him he's completely anonymous.

The midfield? Pretty dreadful. Fletcher is woefully off form and is so far away from being the player he was last season it's unbelievable. Scholes was man marked all game and couldn't create anything.
Anderson was the best of a bad bunch and the only one who had any inclination to get the ball forward but he's only 3 games in from a very nasty injury and is still off the pace.

Keep playing like this and we might as well hand Chelsea the title.

good sake guys lets get some perspective here. Sunderland are no mugs and they should have beat us. They will see yesterday's game as 2 points dropped to me it was a point gained. They over ran is in midfield and pressurised the man with the ball. Berbatov was rested because he ran himself into the ground against Valencia, Evra was rested because he has been poor this season and is still carrying the hangover from France's World cup exit.
The back four looked solid, Rafael ahd another good game at right back and could be maturing into the role. Fletcher worked his socks off and suddenly he is a@#$%&player. Stop sounding like some glory hunter and start waking up. Sunderland had a week to prepare for yesterday. we had from thursday. Their players were fully rested are's weren't hence the squad rotation. All the sides in the champions league struggle if they are away from home. We lost games last season, yesterday we got a draw when we should have been beaten.

I agree with emptyred.

But that's my point - if we had dominated the game and had plenty of chances and still drawn the game I would have been happy. But the performance (especially first half) was awful (much like the Valencia game).

I criticised the midfield above and you said it yourself - we were overran there and it's hardly an uncommon occurence this season. If our midfield can't get a foothold away to Sunderland what's going to happen at Stamford Bridge or in the tougher CL games?

Evra has been poor but he was replaced by a player (JOS) who's been ever poorer. By not playing a specialist leftback and with no leftwinger SAF left the team without a proper shape and with no attacking threat down the left at all.

Agreed. I'd like to see Rafael getting a decent run in the side.

Where did I say that exactly? His form this season is not great - compared to last year it's miles apart. I did not say he was s*it.

What was dissapointing for me was NOT the result, it was the performance. Our defence looked solid but we created next to nothing until Berbatov came on. With Rooney's current form that is very worrying.
