Fletcher pulls out as Scottish withdrawals mount up

Out of Scots Squad

Darren Fletcher has pulled out of the Scotland squad for the upcoming trip to Japan. Given the bizarre nature of the friendly, it perhaps isn't surprising to see that George Burley's squad has suffered no fewer than ten withdrawals since last week.

We can be a cynical bunch at ManUtdWeb Towers - and as Scotland prepare for an arduous journey to Japan for an international friendly, it's perhaps not difficult to see why no fewer than ten players have pulled out of the squad.

Fletcher is the latest name to pull out, along with Spurs full-back Alan Hutton. The duo withdrew just hours before the squad were due to fly out to Tokyo for Saturday's friendly.

With Scotland failing to qualify for the World Cup, the friendly lacks major significance for the Tartan Army. It's thus perhaps easy to see why club managers and physiotherapists would wrap their star names in cotton wool as domestic campaigns get into full swing.

Burley will now be forced to play a somewhat experimental side as he prepares to do battle with the Japanese.
