A star-studded second-half display from Manchester United’s potent attacking force secured a memorable 5-0 win over local rivals Wigan. The Reds broke the deadlock of a largely tense affair on 56 minutes and went onto totally boss proceedings.

On the back of the defeat to Burnley, the OTT press weresurely preparing to fill column inches premising United’s fall from grace as Wigan frustrated the Reds for nearly an hour with a battlingdisplay. 

However, the deadlock was broken as Rooney popped up tenminutes after half-time. The Englandfrontman met Antonio Valencia’s cross with a thunderbolt header and United wentonto dominate proceedings.

Dimitar Berbatov soon made it two before Rooney'sdeflected shot put the game beyond Wigan. 

United were rampant and the travelling fans witnessed abit of history as Michael Owen bagged his first competitive goal for the clubwith a trademark finish. Once the toast of the Kop, Owen clipped a fine finishhome after racing onto Nani's through-ball. 

Animproving Nani then bagged one for himself with a superb free-kick as Uniteddelivered a clear statement of intent to their Premier League rivals with amouth-watering second-half display of attacking football. 

The Reds,three points off the pace, now face a date with on-fire Arsenal next Saturday.
