Manucho leaves United and joins Valladolid

Manchester United have parted company with powerhouse frontman Alberto Manucho. The 26-year-old Angolan striker has failed to win first-team recognition at Old Trafford and has quit the club to join Spanish side Real Valladolid on a free transfer.

Sir Alex Ferguson signed the versatile forward from Petro Atletico in January 2008, immediately loaning him out to Greek club Panathinaikos whilst work permit issues were resolved.

The player arrived in the North West that summer and made his club debut in a League Cup tie against Middlesbrough in September.

However, Manucho struggled to break into Ferguson's first XI and made only three appearances - all from the bench - for the club, failing to hit the target.

The player spent a reasonably successful loan spell at Hull at the back end of last season - but will not be given a proper opportunity to impress at Old Trafford with the club content to see him pen a five-year deal at Valladolid.

Was a very odd signing by Fergie - at 26/27 he hardly qualified as youthful potential and never ever looked even remotely likely to break into the first team here.

However, he was bought for peanuts so we can hardly complain.
