£80million?!

After years of mind-numbing speculation, Cristiano Ronaldo finally looks set to leave Old Trafford. The Portuguese winger is on the verge of joining Real Madrid in a world record breaking deal after the Red Devils accepted a simply astonishing £80million bid for the player.

Both the club and player have denied that any deal would be done this summer - but a staggering bid of £80million was simply too good to turn down.

News emerged of Real's staggering bid on Thursday morning and Ronaldo is expected to have little trouble in agreeing personal terms with the Spanish giants.

Some fans will be concerned by Ronaldo's impending absence; undoubtedly noting that the English & World champions should not be parting company with arguably their strongest player.

However, I am certain this will prove excellent business for the club. £80million is simply silly money. No footballer is worth anything near that figure.

Ronaldo remained one of the club's top performers this season; though his displays paled into insignificance compared to the 42-goal haul he chalked up the season before.

The player has made no secret of his desire to join Real - and United have granted the winger his wish, picking up an astronomical sum of money in the process.

This should be regarded as an exciting period for the club. If, and I suppose it's a big if, Sir Alex is allowed to take the £80million and splash it on the transfer market, then United's squad can come through this ideal significantly stronger than last season.

A host of players will now be linked with Old Trafford in the press - but expect the likes of Karim Benzema and Franck Ribery to top the list. Let's now hope it's an exciting summer on the transfer front. Duncan Drasdo, chief of the Supporters Trust, has already called on the Glazer family to confirm that all incoming funds will be given to Ferguson for team strengthening.

Whther the money is put in transfers or it goes to clear some of our debt. Its in purely business terms a ery good deal. Its clear that he wanted to go last year and his attitude and lack of respect for the club over the last few months has not been good.
In terms of football as a global game, its a poor decision. Real have spent £130 million on 2 players in the middle of a recession and are meant to be still flashing te cash for Villa and one or two others. As a result of this, many clubs will simply struggle to compete and as we see in Scotland they could go out of business.
It will be interesting to see if Platini will still go on about the 6+5 rule, now its a Spanish club splurging the cash. I just can't help feel that this will turn football as we know it into a NFL style franchise operation.

I'll never forget some of the goals, and whilst he may not havebeen the greatest ambassador for the club he was without doubt one of the ,ost skillful and gifted footballers to wear the red shirt.

We'll move on but he will be listed as a great along with Best, Charlton, Cantona, Law, Giggs, Nani (joke) and others!!!

Yeah okay so we will miss his 40 yard screamers and his amazing skill and pace. And sure will miss our top goal scorer for the last couple of seasons. And yes he will be hard to replace, but what we want miss is his lack of respect for the club. I for one am glad he's gone, I couldn't stand his desire to leave the club. It annoyed me so much that I couldn't wait for Fergi to finally ship him off to Madrid, where he can go a few seasons without winning any medals.

I'm just hoping that this sale doesn't effect us like the last time we shipped off our number 7 to Spain, Beckham. We ended up going 3 seasons without winning the league title, and very little silverware.

Time for a new formation Fergi, to keep us on top, and not let them dirty scousers overtake us, because lets be fair, they have the talent.

hell yeah im going to buy a season ticket just for the half time entertainment.... woop woop...

As for Ronaldo, We've won alot in the years hes been here and he has been a great player for us..but it might seem to be just me but i noticed in the champs final his heart wasnt really in it.
