United to face Rams in League Cup semis

Manchester United face Derby County in the semi-finals of the Carling-sponsored League Cup. The Rams reached the final-four following a shock 1-0 win at Stoke City in the quarter-finals. The ties are played over two-legs with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side travelling to Pride Park first.

Paul Jewell's Derby have also knocked-out Leeds, Brighton & Preston on their way to the semi-finals.

The Cup run provides some much-needed success for the club who have struggled to adapt to life in the Championship following last season's disastrous Premier League spell.

In the other tie, giantkilling Burnley face holders Spurs with the first-leg taking place in North London. The Clarets have already dumped Arsenal and Chelsea out of the competition and deserve a place in the final.

The matches will be played on the weeks beginning the 5th and 19th of January - with the two winners' battling it out at Wembley Stadium on the 1ast of March.
