United reserves edge out Northwich Victoria

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's superb start to life as reserve-team boss continued on Thursday evening as United's second-string kept an unbeaten summer record intact with a 3-2 win against Northwich Victoria. Fabio da Silva, Craig Cleverley and Danny Drinkwater were all on target in a hard-fought 3-2 win.

United's reserves share Northwich's Marston's Arena for their home fixtures - but this game was officially designated as a home match for the Red Devils.

The game was organised in controversial circumstances - with Northwich fans disappointed that a high-profile friendly fixture was organised so close to the start of their league campaign.

A crowd of under 500 won't have swelled the club's coffers - but from a United perspective this was another excellent run-out for the club's second-string.
