Sir Alex Ferguson has refused to rule out a move for Barcelona forward Thierry Henry. ManUtdWeb reported last week that the club had been linked with a shock move for the pacey striker who is most famous for his days at Highbury. The necessity for some new attacking talent became increasingly clear during Sunday’s Community Shield triumph over Portsmouth.
Henry has spent little
over a year with Barcelona
after a £16.1million move last June. He was top scorer for the Catalan club
with nineteen strikes - but reports suggested he's unsettled in Spain and
there's been a degree of uncertainty surrounding his future since the New Year.
When quizzes about a
potential move for Henry, Ferguson
refused to rule out a bid for the 30-year-old.
"There is a name every day. That is
the nature of the business," said Sir Alex. "I can't answer it
because I've not got a direct answer.
"It's possible we could sign someone
this week. We are trying. We've got one or two options we are looking at and
hopefully we can get something done before the start of the season."
Ajax's Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Blackburn's
Roque Santa Cruz are other names being linked with the club - but Fergie's
refusal to rule out a swoop for Henry has intensified speculation that the
Frenchman could make a sensational switch to Old Trafford.
Rumours are that we have offered £25 million to Spurs, but although they know Berbatov wants to go, they will sell him to anyone else bar United. Spurs are after David Villa, but they need to sell Berbatov first.
Huntlear wants to come here, so why don't we buy him.
Coz he'll do a Ronaldo and want a move to Madrid after a few years because he has said it is also his "dream" to play for them.
As for Henry, disgust doesn't even sum up my feelings about the possible signing.
Shelling out £20-30 million for strikers 28 and above is ludicrious imo when you can get strikers 4 and 5 years younger for the same price who as just as good and have the potential to be even better.
Granted Henry is a top striker. but he doesnt strike the excitement when i hear his name linked with us as the other 4 do.... Id much rather a younger player, who agreed wou;ld cost a siilar fee. So pish off thierry
Depending on the fee I'd take Henry. How all the fans would react? I'm unsure. Would he actually come here? I'm sceptical no matter what he said about his love for the Gooners before leaving them.
Ideally it has to be Berbs in my opinion but it seems that as every club in the land knows we are lacking strike up front they will hold out until we pay over the odds.
