A new report from the Football Supporters' Federation has called to re-introduce standing and terraced areas to football grounds across England and Wales. An FSF poll has revealed that some 92% of fans want to see standing zones brought back into stadiums across the Premiership and Championship.

A new report from the Football Supporters' Federation has called for standing areas to return to football grounds across England and Wales.

Terraced areas of grounds were slowly removed after the Hillsborough disaster in 1989 where some 96 Liverpool fans were killed in a crush.

However, the FSF feel that the time has come to hand terracing areas back to the supporters. A poll of 2,100 fans in March round that some 92% of supporters wanted the return of standing areas and the Federation will now try and push the argument forward.

"I think it's a very well-argued case for safe standing." said Steven Powell; head of development for the FSF.

"I only hope that the Government and the football authorities sit up and take notice."

'Safe' standing areas have been used all over Europe, including in Germany's Bundesliga, and have proved very popular with supporters.

The re-introduction of terraced areas would go some way to handing the game back to the proper supporters - offering affordable, atmospheric areas to modern-day stadia. It's time that the powers that be realised that this is what the fans want and brought safe standing areas into football grounds across the country.
