Chelsea have closed United's lead at the top of the Premiership table to six points. Jose Mourinho's men secured a 1-0 win over Manchester City; with the threat of relegation now looming over our local rivals.

Chelsea dragged themselves back into the Premiership title race with a crucial win over relegation-threatened Manchester City.

A penalty from England midfielder Frank Lampard was another for Jose Mourinho's men to secure a crucial victory in a tense game at Eastlands.

This was Chelsea's eagerly anticipated game in hand - and any other result other than victory would have spelled disaster for their title hopes. However, West London's big-spenders have secured the three points that puts them back into a decent position in the championship race.

United still hold a valuable six point lead at the top of the table; but still have to visit Stamford Bridge on April 15th. The media are already billing the game as a 'title decider', though in truth there is still a long way to go for both teams yet.

For struggling City, the result really pulls them into the relegation battle at the wrong end of the Premiership table. Under-pressure Stuart Pearce will be desperate to turn things around with the bitter blues sitting just six points above the relegation zone.
