A Manchester United 'XI' made up of reserve and youth team players pulled off an impressive pre-season victory at Hyde United's Ewen Fields. Michael Barnes netted a hat-trick for Brian McClair's men as they cruised to a comfortable 3-1 victory over the Conference North outfit.

A Manchester United 'XI' made up of reserve team and youth players eased to a comfortable 3-1 pre-season victory at Hyde United.

Led by reserve boss Brian McClair, the 'stiffs' had Michael Barnes to thank for the friendly success as he lashed home an impressive hat-trick for the visitors at Ewen Fields, a venue which hosts many of United's home reserve fixtures. His first was a superb low drive on 36 minutes, with two fine strikes coming after the interval.

With many of United's fledglings in action at Celtic Park, the Reds were short of playing staff. McClair was forced to introduce goalkeeper Tom Heaton as a midfielder in the closing stages, as Hyde snatched back late consolation through Gerry Harrison.

The win follows a 1-1 draw for the United reserves at Walsall last week.
