Oh! Please No

We all know the problems of watching baseball in the UK. If you live outside the big cities (Norwich and Bradford) your TV experience can be, very much, like watching baseball in a snowshaker.

But this is far from the end of the problem. Unless, of course, you are unemployed, or a student (which are, probably, one and the same). We've all been there, whether it be a Monday, or a Thursday morning.

'Clark! Why are you late for work?'
'The Phillies game went to extra innings, I didn't get to bed until six"

Although the thought of joining the legions of unemployed, and thus freeing up valuable ball watching time, may, at first appear to have certain benefits. Other benefits, the type cashed at Post Offices, may not be so appealing.

There are of course solutions to this problem, should you be willing to place your baseball watching in the hands of the gods. Two words that will strike fear into the hearts of all British ball fans, I am sure, are these 'Tape it'. This is all very well, but one thing British baseball fans know is 'never trust your video player' to an outsider this motto may seem a little. well, paranoid. But we have the facts to back it up, remember 'you can't be paranoid, if they really are out to get you'. This is generally how it goes.

1.Find blank tape.

2.Place blank tape into the video player.

3.Tune video into Channel 5.

4.Start to set-up timer.

5.Check date.

6.Check AM/PM.

7.Check video is set on 'long play'.

8.Recheck date.

9.Recheck AM/PM.

10.Recheck video is set on 'long play'.

11.Cross fingers. (The religious may pray)

12.Go to sleep.

13.Wake up, go to work.

14.Spend entire day avoiding the result (Mmm. Not that much of a problem)

15.Arrive home from work, preferably with plentiful supplies of Nachos and beer, sit back, relax, and.

16.Watch. Last weeks Eastenders!

'What!? What's happened!? This can't be! I checked! I checked everything! This can't be!'
'Did you set the timer up right?'
'Yes! I checked!'
'Including the date?'
'Yes! Including the date!'
'And you set it on AM?'
'AM, yes! I checked!'
'Long play?'
'It didn't even record!'
'Mmm. Did you rewind the tape?'
'What?'
'The tape. Did you rewind the tape?'
'The tape needed rewinding!?'

And this is only one example, believe me, there are a lot more. Scratch that, there are a hell of a lot more. you really don't want to get me started.
