Will Choi be a Yankee?

With spring training approaching in little under two months there is the usual hive of activity as MLB teams scramble for the signatures of several high profile free agents including Ji-Man Choi.

According to his agency, GSM, the South Korean is pondering offers from no less than thirteen Major League teams. The former New York Yankees first baseman is no stranger to free agency having joined the Yankeesat the beginning of 2017 after leaving the Los Angeles Angels.

The 26-year-old says he is in no hurry to sign what is likely to be a minor-league deal until after the top class free agent first basemen are signed up.

"Big name first basemen like Eric Hosmer, Lucas Duda, Logan Morrison and Mike Napoli have yet to sign contracts," the agency said. "The majors give opportunities to high-paid players first even if rookies are good."

It is believed that Tampa Bay Rays, Oakland Athletics, Milwaukee Brewers, Miami Marlins, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Baltimore Orioles, Minnesota Twins, Atlanta Braves, and the Toronto Blue Jays have all offered contracts as well as his former clubs Los Angeles Angels and the New York Yankees.

Ji-Man batted .267 (4-for-15) with two home runs and five RBIs in six games for the Yankees with both his homers coming in his first two games although he was sent down to the minors in July. For the Angels in 2016 he batted .170 (19-for-112) with five homers and 12 RBIs in 54 games.

Although his agency is biding its time with the offers they are believed to be in talks with several of the teams regarding contract details.

"One deal is worth $1.4 million that includes first class airline seats, as well as a personal interpreter," the agency said.
