Portsmouth striker Steve Lovell is set to sign for Dundee. Jim Duffy is said to be a big fan of the player after seeing him in a spell for Portsmouth when he was the assistant manager of the club along with Graham Rix.

There is a good chance Dundee could sign Portsmouth player Steve Lovell who is currently on loan to Sheffield United.

He is said to be attracting a lot of interest from Dundee.

Jim Duffy who worked with Lovell as a the Assistant manager at Portsmouth is said to be interested in the striker as he seems set to be away to leave to leave Portsmouth after seeming out of favor and he would like to see a move up north.

Jim Duffy is rumored to have spoken to Harry Redknapp about Lovell being moved up north on a free transfer which could happen sometime this week.

The Portsmouth player who is still only 21 year old has only managed 4 goals in 36 appearances for Portsmouth after signing from Bornemouth for £250,000

Though he spend the end of last season on loan to Sheffield United.

Portsmouth fans have said that the player was rated very highly by Alan Ball and is meant to be a very pacey player.

Harry Redknapp had the following to say "Dundee are interested in signing him and I'm now waiting to hear back from Jim.

"Steve's got something to offer and he just needs to work hard on his game and improve his finishing."

Good points :- quick, strong, enthusiastic, quite good when running at defenders, still young enough to improve.

Bad points :- Not a good finisher, loses head in front of goal, too much other forward competition at Pompey, no obvious signs he will improve.

Verdict - a reasonable gamble on a free, his wages won't be high and if he gains confidence from a decent scoring spell who knows.
