Fadi Afash is the hero of the match as he nets one in the last minutes of the game. Calgary put up a good fight as they have no chance for the playoffs.
| August12th Portland 2 Calgary 1 PORTLAND MAKES THE PLAYOFFS!!! Fadi Afash becomes the hero once again putting the ball in the net just before the end of the match. Hugo Alcaraz played a perfect cross which Fadi headed into the upper corner. Calgary played well getting back into the match on a goal by Geert Brusselers. Calgary had many chances and if it was not for the great work by Brian Winters and the rest of the Timbers more goals would have been scored. Calgary had great coverage in the middle making it hard for Portland to get anything going. Portland scored first on Alex Bengards PK as Alan Gordon was pushed in the box going for a header.
Andrew Gregor left the match early in the second half due to an injury he is recovering from. Edwin Miranda came in for Gregor giving the Timbers more energy. Fadi Afash came in with just a few minutes remaining for Byron Alvarez who had a super game giving Calgary fits all evening. The Timbers secure a spot in the playoffs and still remain in first in the Western Division of the A-League. A final mention is that Calgary has a very classy group of players as their keeper Lutz came over to our section after the match as well as the others giving us a wave as the headed to the locker room. Before the match the team remembered Hannah Serrill the daughter of Jim Serrill(Timber Jim) who had past away in a traffic accident last Thursday. The Timbers placed flowers on the log that Timber Jim cuts and gave their condolences to Jim and his grand daughter Keiana.
