The young pup award is based on simillar lines to the National Rising Star award. A player has to meet certain criteria if he is going to be eligible to win. The criteria are as follows. All players aged under 23 years of age (i.e. born in 1980 or later) are eligible. A player must also have not played more than 10 games prior to the start of the regular season (pre season games do NOT count). Of course the player cannot get himself suspended in either AFL or VFL games during the course of the season.

So far, the following players have played at least 1 game in the first 5 for the Bulldogs this season and meet the criteria.

KEIRAN McGUINNESS
BRIAN HARRIS
DANIEL CROSS
PATRICK BOWDEN
SAM POWER


Players will be gradually added to the list if they play for the Bulldogs and are eligible for the award. The voting will be kept secret until the end of the season where the Young Pup of 2003 will be crowned.
