Jimmy Boyle joins the elite band of players who've played for Airdrieonians and Airdrie United. Boyle served Airdrie with distinction from 1989 till 1996 playing in two cup finals, three League Cup finals, two European ties, and a Challenge Cup win.

Jimmy Boyle joined Airdrie in 1989 from Queens Park where he'd already set a record for consecutive appearances over a three season period and had the unenviable task of replacing the cult favourite Davie McKinnon. Replace him he did with his adventurous full back play, he was more winger than defender, winning him instant acclaim. Jimmy did flit in and out the team though in his first couple of seasons but he fully established himself as permanent right wingback under Doddie in the Premier League. Jimmy proved himself capable of playing against any opposition and weighed in with a significant number of goals, although he famously missed 'that' penalty in Prague. Jimmy is probably most fondly revered for his majestic brace of goals that sunk Motherwell in the 1994 League Cup tie at Fir Park. Since leaving Airdrieonians he had spells with Partick, Alloa and Cowdenbeath, and comes to Airdrie United to be reunited with his old team mate, Sandy Stewart.
