On a wet grey freezing day in Brechin the fans needed some excitment to raise the temperature a little, unfortunately this was not going to be the match to attend in that case.

This match is going to be reported as a good point for Brechin in their fight to stave of relegation, in fact Airdrie more or less threw two points away. The match was there for the taking and some composure in front of goals a few less square passes in the box could have seen Airdrie coming home the happier team.

There were reports in the morning that Glebe Park had a little bit of frost and the rain the drizzled down all day did not help the park hold up. After ninety minutes, the park was a mess. At one point Craig Neilson was almost taking his by kicks from the by line.

Brian McPhee had an early chance to put Airdrie in the lead but Neilson in the Brechin goal saved well.

Brechin received a free kick just outside the Airdrie penalty box and with Robertson organising his wall he gave Alex Burns only one area where he could place the ball. Burns complied and Robertson saved easily.

The second half was not going to be much better, we tried there is no denying that but today was not going to be our day. McDougall continued to out pace and out class the Brechin Wingers, Willie McLaren caught the Brechin defence out with his pace, Brian Prunty moved all over the park fighting for everything but still there were very few direct shots on goal and it would be that that killed this game stone dead for entertainment value.

There were three bookings in the match today two for Brachin and one for Airdrie, Willie McLaren was booked after a little stramash in front of the corner flag. Not many complaints about Smith in the middle he allowed the game to flow and pulled the match back only when he judged the team in control had lost the advantage after a foul : - 8/10

A special mention has to be given to the left hand side lines woman who shared a little bit of banter and even took the time to explain her decisions to a few of the Airdrie fans on that side of the pitch.

Man of the Match

Robertson Did not have much to do in front of goals, but when called on did his job well. Will blame the condition of the park for some of his wayward kick outs
McKenna With McManus missing Sandy put his faith in the youngster this week by moving him in to the central defensive role, he didn't let his manager down.
McGoewn Again seems to be back to some of his best didn't put a foot wrong.
Lovering Didn't make as many runs up the park today but I think he was probably told to play a more defensive role today
Coyle A surprisingly bright and bubbly display. He attacked with pace down the right flank and got in some good centres.
Holmes Tired late in the second half but for eighty minutes passed and tackled his way through an excellent game for the youngster, this young lad has the looks of a future Airdrie team captain about him as he bossed and tlaked his way through the match
McKeown What can you say about McKeown ran fought and harried everything was unlucky to see a through ball run out of play early in the first that could have led to an excellent chance
McLaren Needs to concentrate, some very good play was wasted by some thoughless crossing and poor passing.
McDougall Ran his heart out once again, some how someone neds to instill the confidence for his just to have a shot. Steven I hope you read this, you've got it lad so play like you've got it, when your in space in front of goal after making those fantastic runs you make every week hit the ball a crack at goal. You will maybe miss 8 out of 10 times just now but you will get a lot more respect and support from the supporters of any team you play in. Just go for it.
Prunty Worked his socks of again just no luck in front of goal for Brian or Airdrie in general
McPhee Waht can you say he's up he's down fights for everything and gives you 100% every game
Twigg for McPHee 73 mins Had a few good runs but didn’t make any headway
|Dunn for McLaren 83mins Didn't get started at all.
Barkey for Prunty Agin not much chance to get involved.
